Grid Problem

I was planning to make a full-size website that look like the one on the bottom-left. The headline container is supposed to be 50% 1200px with a left aligned text. It looks good on the desktop size. But it looks awful on the mobile size [picture bottom right].

So, I tried to add col-xs-12; col-s-12, so then it will adjusted when the screen size changed. However, some problems occured since I used

// headline container

margin:0 auto;

//by putting <div class=”col50percent col-xs-12>… it overwrite the margin 0 auto that i has earlier since it has float left. It is no longer center aligned anymore.

I was trying to make a grid prefix to push the margin by using something like (.prefix-2 col-10) but I couldn’t figure out how i should write them in Sass

Problem Solving

For some reason my vimeo video that I embed didn’t work. I basically copy the vimeo link that I had on my portfolio site. But for some reason, it didn’t want to appear in this particular web page. I thought it was because i putted incorrect width and height. But this was solved by adding http:// in front of my source link. It is weird tho, since it is working fine on my porfolio site when I don’t have the http:// there.

not working :

 <iframe class=”col-12″ id=”size-3″ src=”//player.vimeo.com/video/86221547″ width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe>

then i added the http: :

 <iframe class=”col-12″ id=”size-3″ src=”http://player.vimeo.com/video/86221547″ width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe>

Getting Started

Below are my progress of my Grow Local’s site

1. Navigation : Putting the logo up and making the nav links wasn’t hard at all. I forgot to copy the font face’s mixin from 2 weeks ago. So I tried to figure out how to do it myself. I opened some websites such as http://blackbe.lt/useful-sass-mixins-font-face-webfonts/ and http://codepen.io/javasteve99/pen/hDxpn. However, I kept getting error messages on my terminal. So for now, I will give up and use the old way to add my own typeface to my css and make sure I’ll copy the font mixin during the next class.

2. First section : Making the first section wasn’t that hard. I was a little bit struggling when i had to place an image on top my green div. But I think i got it right. I wrote this code below for my image wrapper

position: absolute;

Cutest Pirate Ever

3 months internship with Tugboat has made me become a fan of pirates, ships, treasures, and underwater things. Although, that companies has nothing to do with those things I mentioned. But by looking at their logos and icons that includes a lot of marine iconography, I started to fall in love with pirates. Short story, I made these cutie ship’s crews. pirate-1

Started by making the black and white version of it, I made six main crew of the pirate’s ships. The captain, woman pirate, and their crews. I enjoy illustrating each of them. After that I started putting the color that match with Tugboat’s style. And TADAAAA!! Let me introduce you to them.

Designers’ Love Letter

Collecting a bunch of greeting cards – from Valentine’s card, happy birthday cards, congratulation cards, etc was never enough. I always wanted to create my own greeting card. Two semester ago, I finally had a chance to design my own lettering.

Without a lot of thinking, I believed that it was the time to use this opportunity to finally have a greeting card, love letter, or something similar and design it myself. My concept is making a love letter using a quote/words that only us, designers can understand.

I drew a bunch of sketches to see which designs worked best and after that scan it so I could start doing the vectoring on my computer. It took about 1 week for me to finalize this design. I ordered the recipe box from William Sonoma. It wasn’t disappointing at all. It is a great container to put and display those cards that I made. I can’t wait to use this as my thank you note. Yeay!
