Oh Cool Gray City of Love…

S__5365801It’s been a month and half since I left San Francisco.  Tons of thing that I miss about this beautiful city. I am grateful for such a lucky opportunity to be able to live in the most romantic city in USA. City where you’ll never be freezing to death or sweating like a pig. This city has pampered me so much with its beauty and unique characteristic.

San Francisco was my first love and first venture greats galore. Three and half years weren’t enough to explore this city. Although, it was me who wanted to finally go back to Asia, to explore and get familiarize with Asia culture again. Oh San Francisco, I miss your warm winter and your breezy summer. I love getting excited every time I drove to the top of your hills. I adore the beautiful panoramic scenes every where I gazed. Even Tenderloin has its beauty and uniqueness. On top of every thing, I miss how friendly San Franciscans can be.

Last school project ever

“Starting strong is good, but finish strong is epic” – Robin Sharma. This quote had been lingering on my mind ever since this fall semester began. I had my last class yesterday. What did I feel? Happy. Sad. Anxious. Excited. I had a mixed feeling. Okay! So, yesterday, my team and I submitted a website called “The Fog of San Francisco”. When we first assigned with this project, I thought why not to have a project dedicated to this sweet foggy city that has inspired me constantly for the past three and half year.

The Fog of San Francisco is a parallax website that featured four iconic neighborhood in San Francisco. You will be able to see those San Francisco’s icons covered by fog. You can also find some interesting facts about them and find out how to get there, what you should do there, and more informations.

Behind a great project, of course there is an awesome team. For this project, I teamed up with Sundai Sun, Adam Wojewidka, and Ben Levy. Sundai was in charge to manage our github account and figure out how the skrollr works. Adam was in charge doing the modal window and tying the lose ends. Ben did the sf-icon typeface. I was in-charge doing the illustrations.

It was a great time working with my team and I was so proud that we finally made it. Thank you, team! Thank you for being an awesome teacher, Hamilton Cline! Thank you Academy of Art – Web and New Media Department!

Note: Chrome is great, but apparently “The Fog of San Francisco” currently hates Chrome. So, please open “The Fog of San Francisco” in Safari. Thank you!

Cutest Pirate Ever

3 months internship with Tugboat has made me become a fan of pirates, ships, treasures, and underwater things. Although, that companies has nothing to do with those things I mentioned. But by looking at their logos and icons that includes a lot of marine iconography, I started to fall in love with pirates. Short story, I made these cutie ship’s crews. pirate-1

Started by making the black and white version of it, I made six main crew of the pirate’s ships. The captain, woman pirate, and their crews. I enjoy illustrating each of them. After that I started putting the color that match with Tugboat’s style. And TADAAAA!! Let me introduce you to them.

Designers’ Love Letter

Collecting a bunch of greeting cards – from Valentine’s card, happy birthday cards, congratulation cards, etc was never enough. I always wanted to create my own greeting card. Two semester ago, I finally had a chance to design my own lettering.

Without a lot of thinking, I believed that it was the time to use this opportunity to finally have a greeting card, love letter, or something similar and design it myself. My concept is making a love letter using a quote/words that only us, designers can understand.

I drew a bunch of sketches to see which designs worked best and after that scan it so I could start doing the vectoring on my computer. It took about 1 week for me to finalize this design. I ordered the recipe box from William Sonoma. It wasn’t disappointing at all. It is a great container to put and display those cards that I made. I can’t wait to use this as my thank you note. Yeay!
